Bulls, Pirates to meet for state tourney berth
Jackson and Windom will play for the final berth from Region 13C into the state Class C amateur baseball tournament.
The Bulls and Pirates open a best-of-three series at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wacker Field.
Game 2 is at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Windom Recreation Area and if Game 3 is necessary, it would be back in Jackson at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The winner of the series will advance to the state tournament that gets underway next week with games in Belle Plaine, Jordan and Green Isle.
Windom defeated Jackson twice during the regular season with both games being played in Windom.
The Pirates won 8-1 on June 9 at Island Park and 14-2 on June 23 at the Windom Rec Area in a game that was a home game for the Bulls but moved to Windom due to flooding closing streets in Jackson.
Jackson and Fairmont tied for first place in the First Nite League standings with 12-3 records. The Bulls did beat the Martins in both head-to-head meetings. The Pirates were third with an 11-4 mark.
Jackson was seeded second in the region playoffs and beat seventh-seeded Pipestone 2-0 before falling 2-0 to third-seeded Fairmont. Windom was seeded fifth and won 2-1 over the fourth-seeded Milroy Irish and losing 2-0 to top-seeded Luverne.
The Redbirds host Fairmont in the championship series that also starts Wednesday. Both of those teams are guaranteed spots in the state tournament.
