South Sub-Section number one seed Luverne defeated fifth-seeded Jackson County Central 9-0 in the opening round of the Section 3AA baseball tournament Thursday at Redbird Field in Luverne.
The loss puts the Huskies record at 7-15 and sends them to an elimination game at noon Saturday at Island Park in Windom vs. second-seeded Fairmont (12-7). The Cardinals dropped a 3-1 decision to third-seeded Windom Thursday.
JCC had five hits vs. Luverne’s Carter Sehr, who struck out 10 Huskies.
Gage Johnson had two hits, Brett Rossow doubled, and Ben Gallagher and Grant Freking also collected hits for Jackson County Central.
Freking took the pitching loss for JCC. Trey Rossow and Talan Holm also pitched.
Saturday’s winner advances to play at 7 p.m. Monday at Legion Field in Marshall.
