Top-seeded Jackson County Central will play its first game in the Section 3AA South Sub-Section girls basketball tournament at 6 p.m. Tuesday when it faces fourth-seeded Redwood Valley at the St. James Event Center.
The Huskies, 19-6 on the season, had a bye in Friday’s quarterfinals. The Cardinals (18-9) were 76-61 winners over fifth-seeded St. James Area.
It will be the third meeting of the season between the teams. JCC won the first two, 77-68 in Jackson on Jan. 7 and 73-44 in Redwood Falls on Feb. 14.
Jackson County Central has been outscoring its opponents 73.8-58.9 this season, while Redwood has been outscoring its foes 62.0-57.8.
Tuesday’s late semifinal has second-seeded Fairmont (19-7) playing sixth-seeded Pipestone (14-12). The winners will play for the South Sub-Section title at 8 p.m. Thursday at Southwest Minnesota State University.
The 3AA North Sub-Section semifinals are at Willmar High School Tuesday with top-seeded
New London-Spicer (26-1) facing fifth-seeded Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta (10-17) and second-seeded Minnewaska Area (24-3) taking on third-seeded Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (25-3). Those winners will play for the North Sub-Section title at 6 p.m. Thursday at SMSU.
Double digit win streaks
There are six Class 2A girls basketball teams in the state with double digit winning streaks, with three of those teams completing their regular-season schedules undefeated.
Crosby-Ironton, Providence Academy and Royalton all enter postseason play with 26-0 records.
Jackson County Central has won 16 in a row, Maranatha Christian 12 and New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 10.
