
Jackson County Central and Martin County West won their football openers Friday night after the JCC cross country teams had competed at Mountain Lake earlier in the day.
Clay Malchow and Gage Johnson scored two touchdowns apiece as the Huskies’ football team was a 44-0 winner at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial.
Malchow scored on a five-yard run and took in a 56-yard screen pass from Roman Voss for a score. Johnson had a pair of rushing touchdowns, from 3 and 10 yards out.
Other JCC TDs came on a three-yard run by Voss and an 11-yard run by Tate Phillips. The Huskies have their home opener next Friday vs. Worthington. The Trojans dropped their opener to Luverne 25-6 on Thursday.
MCW won at home 42-0 over Canby.
Maddex Faber threw three touchdown passes for the Mavericks, two to Lucas Larson and one to Berent Kosbab.
Torrey Paplow and Cameron Meyer had rushing touchdowns for MCW and Kosbab scored his second TD on a punt return.
The Mavericks are at Adrian/Ellsworth next Friday. The Dragons lost to Springfield 34-6 Thursday.
Jackson County Central finished third in the girls team standings and had an incomplete team in the boys meet at the Paul Metcalf Invitational cross country meet Friday at Mountain Lake Golf Course.
JCC’s girls had two runners finish in the top 20 as Cora Pauling was 13th out of 59 runners with a 5K time of 22:46.81 and Naiya Ayers was 17th in 23:28.77.
JCC's boys were incomplete. Grant Ambrose was 64th of 85 runners with a 5K time of 23:04.43.
Jackson County Central competes in the Gerry Smith Invitational Thursday in Montgomery.
