Saturday was another busy day for current high school student-athletes as well as some area graduates.
The Jackson County Central wrestling team went 3-0 to win the Division 6 title at The Clash in La Crosse. The Huskies had gone 1-2 on Friday.
On Saturday, JCC defeated Apple Valley 42-19, Glenbard North, Ill. 38-24 and Prairie du Chien, Wis. 42-28.
Nolan Ambrose and Ryan Haley both went 6-0 in the tourney for the Huskies.
Martin County edged Mankato East for the team title at the Tri-City United Invitational wrestling tournament. The Red Bulls were first with 104 points, with the Cougars second with 100.5.
Five Martin County wrestlers won their weight class, Pierce Rohman (121), Torrey Paplow (133), Berent Kosbab (152), Taylor Austin (172) and Colby Schwichtenberg (285).
In college wrestling, some area graduates competed in the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls.
In Division II, No. 17 Augustana finished second, losing to No. 1 Central Oklahoma in the finals.
Seeing mat time in that tournament for the Vikings were JCC graduate Payton Handevidt, along with MCW grads Jaxson Rohman, Connor Simmonds and Payton Anderson.
Another Martin County West graduate, Blake Jagodzinske, wrestled for Augsburg, which was runner up in the Division III tourney.
Martin County Area was second and Jackson County Central fourth in the team standings at the MCA Invitational gymnastics meet Saturday at Live Fit in Fairmont.
JCC’s Clara Brinks won the beam competition (8.975) and was 10th in all around (32.0). Romi Rosenbrook was eighth in all around (32.325).
The Magic had three athletes finish in the top 10 in all around with Hannah Cole third (34.775), Lillie Schultz fifth (33.450) and Abigaile Chavez ninth (32.025).
The Windom Area boys hockey team completed a two-day road trip to the central part of the state with an 8-1 loss to Sauk Rapids-Rice.
In college men’s hockey, Heron Lake native Hobie Hedquist was the winning goalie for the second straight night as he made 17 saves on 19 shots as No. 4 North Dakota was a 6-2 winner over Alaska in Grand Forks.
