To start things off, all of Saturday’s events happened during the day but I’m committed to the “About last night” bit, okay?
That said, the weather could not have been better Saturday as the Jackson County Central boys team won the school’s first-ever Big South Conference track and field title; the JCC and Martin County West softball teams both went 3-0 on the day; and the MCW played well but came up short in a loss.
Track and field
The JCC boys edged Redwood Valley 151-143.5 to win the team title at the Big South Conference Small School Track and Field Championship in Pipestone.
It’s the first ever BSC team title in track and field for either the boys or girls.
Clay Malchow had two first-place finishes, winning the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.04 seconds and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles (42.87).
Ben Dahlin broke his own school record in winning the 200 meters (22.46).
JCC was third in the girls team standings.
Luverne won it with 202.5 points, followed by Redwood Valley (151) and the Huskies (124).
Rylie Cother won the 100-meter hurdles (16.36) and high jump (5-0).

The Huskies defeated Worthington 15-3 in five innings, New York Mills 10-3 and Zumbrota-Mazeppa 12-2 in six innings.
JCC had three different winning pitchers, Hadley Wachal, Mady Wachal and Brielle Mouw.
The Huskies are now 16-3 on the season.
MCW softball

The Mavericks beat Yellow Medicine East 6-5 in eight innings, Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove 17-0 in five innings and Lakeview 12-0 in six innings.
Maddie Carlson was the winning pitcher in the first game, Sydney Clow won the second game and the two combined efforts in the final game.
Emily Anderson had four hits vs. the Sting, three vs. the Falcons and two vs. the Lakers.
The Mavericks improved to 16-3.
MCW baseball
