
Things were hopping around Jackson Country Central High School Thursday as there was softball on the east side of the school, baseball on the west side and at the school itself was the FFA Greenhouse and dance recital.
Also Thursday, JCC’s golf teams got out of town for Big South Conference events.
The Class 2A ninth-ranked Huskies’ softball team picked up a pair of wins over longtime rival Pipestone, beating the Arrows 13-3 in six innings and 2-0. Hadley Wachal was the winning pitcher in the first game, striking out eight and Mady Wachal got the win in the second game, fanning 11.
Kinley VanDeVere, Mady Wachal, Bailey Finck and Lauren Johnson had two hits apiece for JCC in the first game.
Each team had only one hit in the second game. Kaysa Douty had a fourth-inning single for the Arrows and Johnson had a seventh-inning double for the Huskies.
JCC’s baseball team dropped two tough games at Wacker Field.
In the opener, St. James Area scored three runs with two outs in the seventh to beat the Huskies 6-5. JCC had a 4-0 lead in the second game before Pipestone scored four in the fifth and five in the sixth to win 9-4.
Ben Gallagher and Gage Johnson had two hits apiece vs. the Saints. The Huskies had three hits vs. the Arrows.
JCC’s golf teams both played in their respective Big South Conference Gold Division events.
The girls were fifth at Minn-Iowa Golf Course in Elmore with a 241 total. Host Blue Earth Area was first with 191. Rachel Mohr led the Huskies with a 52, placing eighth out of 32 golfers.
In the boys meet at Redwood Falls Golf Course, JCC was sixth with 184. Windom won it with 163. Tavin Miller paced the Huskies with a 41 to tie for seventh of 41 golfers.
The lone Martin County West team scheduled to play was the softball team, but their doubleheader vs. Madelia at Searles was postponed and rescheduled for 4 p.m. Friday.
