
Fairmont came back from an early deficit to win 13-5 over Jackson Friday night at Herb Wolf Field in Fairmont and win their best-of-three Region 13C amateur baseball playoff series in two straight games.
The Bulls had a 5-1 lead in the third inning before Fairmont rallied.
The Martins are guaranteed a spot in the state Class C tournament. The Bulls will play either Windom or Luverne in another best-of-three series starting Wednesday with the winner advancing to state.
Jackson County Central graduate Brett Benson is tied for fourth place at the Northwest Amateur golf tournament in Spencer. He shot a one-over 73 Friday after a first-round 65.
Benson, who is superintendent at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial, is at six-under 138 for the tournament. Dennis Bull of Norwalk, Iowa is first at 10-under 134.
Hunter Schmidt of Dunnell is tied for 18th at three-under 141.
Connor Anderson of Welcome shot an even-par 72 in his first round. He starts his second round at 2:40 p.m. Saturday.
Austin Olson of Jackson shot 80 in his first round and starts at 12:30 p.m. Saturday for his second round.
Skylar Prochaska of Lakefield finished 12th in the 20-lap A Main on the second night of the Xtream Powered by Mediacom 360 Knoxville Nationals. He was seventh in time trials and fourth in his heat.
Prochaska will start 20th in Saturday night’s A Main.
Kaleb Johnson of Sioux Falls will start eighth. On the front row will be Emerson Axsom of Franklin Ind. and Tyler Courtney of Indianapolis.

It’s been announced that Charlie Clarksean will be one of this year’s inductees into the Jackrabbit Sports Hall of Fame at South Dakota State University.
Clarksean and the rest of the group will be honored on Saturday, Sept. 14 when SDSU hosts Augustana. It will be the first meeting between the Jackrabbits and Vikings since 2004.
A Jackson High School graduate, Clarksean lettered as a defensive back for the Jackrabbits from 1971-1973. Charlie has been a longtime assistant coach with the football and boys basketball programs at Jackson and Jackson County Central, usually on a volunteer basis.
