JCC, MCW softball teams win away from home
Jackson County Central opened its softball season on Friday with a pair of nonconference wins over New Ulm Cathedral.
The Class AA 13th-ranked Huskies defeated the Class A No. 6 Greyhounds 5-3 and 12-2 in six innings.
Hadley Wachal was the winning pitcher in the first game, allowing three hits, walking four and striking out 15. Cora Pauling had two hits. Brielle Tufvesson and Kinley VanDeVere each had a double.
Mady Wachal won the second game in the circle, striking out nine. She was also on base four times with a home run, single and two walks. Pauling had three more hits.
Martin County West was a softball winner on the road for the second straight day as the Class A No. 9 Mavericks earned a 3-2 victory at Windom.
Maddie Carlson got the pitching win as she gave up four hits, did not walk a batter and fanned nine. She also drove in the game-winning run on a double in the top of the seventh.
JCC’s baseball team lost for the first time this season on Friday, losing 7-0 to Maple River.
Isaac Hesebeck and Carson Kolander each doubled for the Huskies. Ben Gallagher and Kain Titterington had the other JCC hits.
Levi Thompson took the pitching loss.
The Jackson County Central boys golf team placed sixth out of 15 teams at the 18-hole Worthington Trojan Invite at Great Life Golf & Fitness with a 358 total. Western Christian was first with 323.
Tavin Miller led the Huskies with an 82, finishing in a three-way for eighth place among 84 golfers. Western Christian’s Ryer Roetman was medalist with a 77.
Also Friday, the Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin track and field teams competed in a meet in Blue Earth. Both were fifth in the team standings.
Mylee Larson had a pair of second-place finishes for the Mavericks in the girls meet as she was runner-up in the shot put (30-9) and discus (95-7).
MCWBO’s top placing in the boys meet was the 4x800 relay team of Elliot Reynolds, Braxton Faber, Marek Mulder and Daiton Veigel in 10:36.
