A pair of Martin County West graduates are college wrestling all-Americans, the field of eight teams has been set for the state Class 2A boys basketball tournament, and Heron Lake native Hobie Hedquist’s first start in goal in two months was a successful one.
All-American wrestlers
Jaxson Rohman is competing in the NCAA Division II tournament in Park City, Kan. and Blake Jagodzinske is wrestling at the Division III tourney in LaCrosse.
Rohman, a junior at Augustana, won twice at 125 pounds. He won in 2:18 over Central Missouri’s Jacob Tangpricha in the first round and then won 11-4 over Dayson Torgerson of Colorado Mesa in the quarterfinals.
The fourth-seeded Rohman, 21-4, will face top-seeded James Joplin of Lander (29-0) in today’s (Saturday) semifinals.
Rohman will be an all-American for the second time in his three trips to nationals, having placed second at 125 last year.
Jagodzinske (19-6) won three matches including two by falls.
In the preliminary round, the fifth-seeded Jagodzinske pinned Wenchard Pierre-Louis of Ithaca in 3:24 and he then defeated Jason Rezac of Alvernia University in 1:06.
In the quarterfinals, he was an 11-8 winner over fourth-seeded Ryan Smith of Stevens to be guaranteed a place on the podium and all-American status. Jagodzinske will meet top-seeded Nolan Hertel of Wisconsin-La Crosse in the semifinals.
State Class 2A boys basketball
The list of qualifiers for the state Class 2A boys basketball tournament was finalized Friday night.
Seeding will take place and the pairings will be determined on Saturday.
The quarterfinals are Wednesday at two sites, with games at 6 and 8 p.m. at both Williams Arena and Target Center.

Hedquist starts, wins
Hobie Hedquist learned Friday morning that he would be getting the start in goal for North Dakota in Game 1 of its best-of-three National Collegiate Hockey Conference playoff series that night in Grand Forks.
Hedquist, a freshman who had not started a game since Jan. 13, stopped 23 of 24 shots as the Fighting Hawks won 5-1 win over Miami University.
Starting goaltender Ludvig Persson was held out Friday due to an undetermined ailment. UND coach Brad Berry said after Friday’s game that he did not know who would start in goal in Saturday’s Game 2.
Hedquist improved to 4-0 on the season.
