Fairmont was the place to be on Friday as the city hosted a pair of 14-team golf tournaments, there were 16 teams in two classes at the Sentinel Relays track and field meet and Fairmont Raceway opened its season.
In the Fairmont Invitational golf tournament, Jackson County Central’s boys were 10th in the team standings at Interlaken, while the girls dd not have a complete team at Rose Lake Golf Course.
Tavin Miller was the low individual for the JCC boys as he finished in a four-way tie for 12th place out of 83 golfers with an 81. Rachel Mohr led the girls as she was 19th of 65 golfers with a 105.
At the Sentinel Relays, JCC’ boys were second in the Class AA team standings and the girls were third.
Ben Dahlin and Clay Malchow each had two individual first-place finishes and they made up half of a winning relay team.
Dahlin won the 100 meters (11.25) and 200 meters (22.73), while Malchow won the 110 hurdles (15.84) and 300 hurdles (41.70).
Malchow ran the first leg and Dahlin the anchor leg of the Huskies’ winning 4x200-meter relay team (1:33.01). Ron’Quall Kyle and Quinn Landherr ran the other legs.
Rylie Cother won two events for the JCC girls, the 100 hurdles (16.24) and long jump (16-5).
Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin was entered in the Class A portion of the Sentinel Relays.
The boys had two first-place finishes as Bear Kosbab won the 200 meters (23.26) and he ran the anchor leg of the winning 4x100-meter relay team. Running the first three legs were Josh Roben, Lixon Forsberg and Kale Larson.
The top finish for the Mavericks in the girls meet was a third by Ava Thate in the high jump (4-6).
Fairmont Raceway started its season Friday night.

Away from Fairmont, the JCC baseball team put on a late rally but came up short in a 9-8 loss at St. James Area.
Gage Johnson had three hits for the Huskies, while Ben Gallagher and Carson Kolander had two apiece.
Martin County West’s baseball team also dropped a close one Friday, losing 3-2 to Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in Fairfax.
Five players had one hit apiece for Mavericks. Noah Meixell had a double and also took the pitching loss.
MCW’s softball team won a pair of Madelia in Searles, winning 12-0 in five innings and 13-3 in six innings.
Maddie Carlson was the winning pitcher in the opener, allowing one hit and striking out 11. Hannah Rosenberg had four hits including a triple, while Courtney Anderson and Bailey Larson each had three hits.
Sydney Clow was the winning pitcher in the second game for the Mavericks. Emily Anderson and Courtney Anderson had three hits apiece for MCW.
Also Friday, Martin County West hosted a golf triangular at Fox Lake Golf Course in Sherburn.
The Mavericks were second in the boys meet. Knox Larson and Carson Scheff both shot a 42 for MCW.
