
Jackson County Central’s boys track and field team was edged for the team title at the Section 2A true team meet in Wells Tuesday night.
Maple River finished with 638 points, with the Huskies second with 634. In the true team scoring, all entries are counted rather than the top eight as in traditional meets.
The Eagles earn a spot in the state true team meet on Saturday, May 17 in Stillwater. JCC will be in the running for one of four wildcard spots in the state meet.
Results from teams placing 2-5 in the eight section meets will be entered for a virtual meet, with the top four teams earning an opportunity to compete in the state meet.
Ben Dahlin had two first-place finishes for JCC, winning the 200 meters in 22.63 and the 400 meters (50.51). He was also second in the 100 meters (11.25).
Other firsts for the Huskies came from Clay Malchow in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles (41.91) and Ron'Queall Kyle in long jump (19-7.75).
JCC’s girls were fourth in the team standings. Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton won the team title.
Stevie Untiedt was second in the 400 meters (1:02.74) for Jackson County Central and was on the Huskies’ 4x200 relay team that was second (1:52.66). Running the other legs were Natalia Botello-Ramos, Zoey Hall and Allison Luebben.
Also, Tianna Uilk was third in discus (94-10).
The Jackson County Central softball team celebrated Senior Night with a 5-1 win over St. James Area.
One of the Huskies’ two seniors, Lauren Johnson, had two hits. Also recording two hits were Kinley VanDeVeere and Brielle Tufvesson.
Mady Wachal was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits and striking out 11.
Martin County West’s softball team scored 11 runs in the first inning on its way to a 19-0 Senior Day win over Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s in four innings in Welcome.
Emily Anderson, Maddie Carlson and Bailey Larson had three hits apiece for the Mavericks. Carlson (three innings) and Addy Wohlhuter (one) combined on the pitching shutout.
The JCC baseball team dropped a 10-0 game in five innings at Luverne. Ben Gallagher and Carson Doescher had hits for the Huskies.
Martin County West’s baseball team won 10-0 in six innings at home over Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at home.
Lucas Larson shut out the Knights, allowing four hits and striking out four. Cam Meyer had two hits for the Mavericks.
