The Jackson County Central volleyball team lost a pair of matches to state-ranked teams Friday on the first day of the Class AA Showcase at the Midwest Volleyball Warehouse in Burnsville.
No. 10 Wadena-Deer Creek defeated the Huskies 2-0 (25-14, 25-18) and No. 2 Southwest Christian topped JCC 2-0 (25-16, 25-13).
The Huskies have another pool play match at 10 a.m. Saturday vs. Nova Classical and will then move to bracket play.
Jackson County Central’s football team didn’t play Friday but did pick up a win as LeSueur-Henderson forfeited the game earlier in the week.
The Huskies are 4-0 and will host Redwood Valley in their homecoming game next Friday at Swearingen Field. The Cardinals are 3-1 after beating Pipestone 24-21 last night.
Friday in Sherburn, the Martin County West football team celebrated homecoming by recording its first win of the season, 12-0 over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton.
Lucas Larson threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Berent Kosbab late in the first half and also scored on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter.
MCW (1-3) will play at Wabasso on Saturday, Sept. 30.
