Jackson County Central probably earned the number one seed for the Section 3AA football playoffs Thursday night with a 34-0 win over Luverne at Swearingen Field. The Huskies improved to 7-0, while the Cardinals are 4-3.
Pipestone is 4-2 with a game scheduled tonight (Friday) at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial before hosting JCC in the regular-season finale on Wednesday.
The Huskies had 304 yards of offense, all on the ground.
JCC had four rushing touchdowns, Roman Voss (55 yards), Clay Malchow (10), Seth Stai (15) and Isaac Hesebeck (21). Also, Aiven Farmer recovered a Cardinal poor snap attempt in the end zone for a TD.
Senior Jack Sadusky has been handling the majority of the kicking duties for Jackson County Central, but he missed Thursday’s game.
He also plays for the Fairmont boys soccer team and scored a goal as the fourth-seeded Cardinals downed fifth-seeded St. Peter 4-2 in a Section 2A quarterfinal. Next up is a 7 p.m. Saturday matchup at top-seeded Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa.
In college volleyball Thursday, JCC graduate Alaina Wolff had 13 digs tonight for South Dakota in a 3-0 win over St. Thomas. The Coyotes (10-7) host Kansas City Saturday.
