Bluejays win matchup of rated teams and more

JCC’s Grant Freking goes up for a shot Saturday vs. Waseca. Freking reached the 1,000-point scoring mark for his career in the Huskies 75-71 loss to the Bluejays.

Waseca held off Jackson County Central 75-71 in a highly anticipated matchup of state-ranked Class 2A boys basketball teams Saturday in Jackson. The second-ranked Bluejays remain unbeaten with a 22-0 record, while the Huskies are 19-3.

Grant Freking reached the 1,000-point mark for his career at the first half buzzer and finished with 21 points. Roman Voss led JCC in scoring with 32 points.

Martin County West’s basketball teams were both winners over Mankato Loyola at the Karson Janssen Hoops for Heart event in Trimont. The girls won 53-40 and the boys were 59-43 winners.

Kate Kolbe of Martin County finished third at 142 pounds at Section 3-4 individual girls wrestling tournament in Redwood Falls.

In college wrestling, Martin County West grads Jaxson Rohman and Connor Simmonds and JCC graduate Payton Handevidt all wrestled for No. 8 Augustana in its 19-17 NSIC dual win over Minnesota State in Mankato.

In Grand Forks Saturday night, Sherburn native Carsen Musser made 24 saves in No. 20 Colorado College’s 3-1 loss to No. 16 North Dakota.
