Jackson County Central won on the road and Martin County West lost at home in football Friday night. The Huskies were 43-0 winners at Worthington, while the Mavericks fell to Adrian/Ellsworth 35-12 in Sherburn.
Seth Stai and Bryson Powers each scored two touchdowns for JCC, which is now 2-0.
Stai’s scores both came from 12 yards out. He finished with 130 yards on 13 carries.
Powers caught tight end screens from Brenan Runge on plays of 36 and 18 yards. Those were his only catches in the game.
Runge was 10-for-17 passing for 110 yards.
Also, Isaac Hesebeck scored on a 16-yard touchdown run, Gage Johnson ran one in from 42 yards out and Jack Sadusky kicked a 41-yard field goal.
Jackson County Central had 320 yards rushing and 110 passing for 430 yards while limiting the Trojans to 39 yards on the ground and 32 in the air for 71 yards.
The Huskies host Blue Earth Area next week.
MCW fell to 0-2 with its loss to the Dragons.
Both TDs for the Mavericks came on passes from Lucas Larson to Josh Roben, coming on plays of 12 and 5 yards.
Rylan Cutler posted 131 yards rushing and also caught six passes for 48 yards for MCW.
Martin County West is at Tracy-Milroy-Balaton next week.
Saturday
Both the JCC and MCW cross country teams will be in Luverne for the Bruce Gluf Invitational. The varsity girls race is at 10:10 a.m. and the varsity boys at 10:50.
Martin County West’s volleyball team will be in Mapleton for the Maple River Volleyball Showcase. The Mavericks will have matches vs. Redwood Valley, St. Charles, Austin, Sibley East and the host Eagles.
Also Saturday, JCC’s seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball teams are hosting a jamboree in Jackson, with play starting at 8:30 a.m.
