Jackson County Central is in the state football tournament for the second straight year and the tenth time in school history following a 38-7 win over Redwood Valley in the Section 3AA championship game Friday at Mattke Field at the Schwan Regional Event Center in Marshall.
It’s the fourth time the Huskies have made back-to-back trips to state.
Sophomore Roman Voss ran for a touchdown on each of JCC’s first two possessions, scoring from 5 and 9 yards out. And in between, he recovered a fumble on defense.
In the second quarter, Voss threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Bryson Powers.
Also in the second quarter, Clay Malchow scored from 14 yards out and Jack Sadusky kicked a 27-yard field goal on the final play of the half and the Huskies led 31-0 at the break.
The lone score of the second half for JCC was a two-yard TD run by Tavion Diggs in the fourth quarter.
Sadusky was 4-for-4 on his extra-point attempts in addition to the field goal and Leo Feichtinger made his lone PAT attempt.
JCC had 334 yards offense, 246 rushing and 88 passing. The Huskies limited Redwood to 184 yards, 20 on the ground and 164 in the air.
Voss ran for 89 yards on 11 carries and was 9-for-16 passing for 88 yards and one TD. He had the fumble recovery on defense and just for kicks (pun intended) he averaged 43.5 yards on two punts including one that pinned the Cardinals on their own one-yard line.
Seth Stai had 72 yards rushing on 11 carries. Ben Dahlin caught six passes for 68 yards.
Jackson County Central will play Caledonia at 7 p.m. Thursday at Rochester Mayo High School. The Warriors won the Section 1AA title Friday with a 35-20 win over Dover-Eyota.
