COUNCIL BLUFFS – Fairmont High School graduate Jacob Rahn earned all-American honors at the National Junior College Athletic Association Wrestling Championships at the Mid-American Center.
A freshman heavyweight at Iowa Lakes Community College, Rahn placed eighth at the national tourney that concluded Saturday.
Rahn won his first match 2-0, lost his second 14-3, won two straight (13-3 and 7-0) and then dropped his final two matches (2-0 and 6-0). He’s the first former Martin County Red Bull to earn all-American honors.
Also, Minnesota West had three wrestlers at the tournament, with one earning all-American honors.
Damon Ashworth placed sixth at 165. He won his first three matches, two by fall and one by a 10-0 margin. He injured his ankle in the semifinals and had to medical forfeit out of the tournament.
The Bluejays are coached by former Lakefield, HLOL/Jackson and JCC coach Randy Baker and JCC graduate Cameron Henning.
