Two former Martin County Red Bull wrestlers earned all-American status at their respective NCAA tournaments on Friday and will look to see how high on the podium they can climb on Saturday.
Jaxson Rohman is competing in the NCAA Division II tournament in Park City, Kan. and Blake Jagodzinske is wrestling at the Division III tourney in LaCrosse.
Rohman, a junior at Augustana, won twice at 125 pounds.
He won in 2:18 over Central Missouri’s Jacob Tangpricha in the first round and then won 11-4 over Dayson Torgerson of Colorado Mesa in the quarterfinals.
The fourth-seeded Rohman, 21-4, will face top-seeded James Joplin of Lander (29-0) in the semifinals. Rohman will be an all-American for the second time in his three trips to nationals, having placed second at 125 last year.
Augustana has four wrestlers who have earned all-American honors with two more still alive to do so. The Vikings are eighth in the team standings. Central Oklahoma leads with 59.5 points, with Lander second with 54.5.
Jagodzinske (19-6) won three matches, the first two by falls.
In the preliminary round, the fifth-seeded Jagodzinske pinned Wenchard Pierre-Louis of Ithaca in 3:24 and he then was a winner over Jason Rezac of Alvernia University in 1:06.
In the quarterfinals, he scored five points (including riding time point) in the final minute for an 11-8 win over fourth-seeded Ryan Smith of Stevens to guarantee a spot on the podium and all-American status.
Jagodzinske will meet top-seeded Nolan Hertel of Wisconsin-La Crosse (26-0) in the semifinals.
He became the fourth former Red Bull to become a college all-American. He joins Jacob Rahn (Iowa Lakes Community College), Katie Lange (Augsburg) and Rohman.
Jagodzinske is one of six all-Americans for Augsburg, which leads the team standings with 59 points. Wisconsin-La Crosse is second with 49.5 points and Wartburg (Iowa) is third with 49 points.
