Martin County West graduate Jaxson Rohman, a senior at Augustana University, has been named a first-team all-conference selection at 125 pounds by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. It’s his second career all-NSIC honor.
Rohman went 6-0 against NSIC foes in dual meets. He won by three pins and three tech falls, including a first-period pin against a No. 4-ranked Shane Corrigan of Parkside
For the season, Rohman has a 15-4 overall record and will look to earn his third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II national tournament. He has placed in the top three in three consecutive seasons and is a back-to-back national runner-up.
Rohman and the Vikings are hosting the NCAA Super Region V Tournament today (Saturday) at Elmen Center on the Augustana campus in Sioux Falls.
There will be 11 teams competing, each of the 10 NSIC schools with wrestling and former NSIC member Upper Iowa. Of the 11 competition teams, five are ranked and four are receiving votes, led by top-ranked St. Cloud State.
Rohman is 9-0 against super region opponents. The 125-pound division features three ranked wrestlers, with Rohman leading at No. 3.
Two other local graduates will compete for Augustana in the regional.
Another MCW grad, Connor Simmonds, will wrestle at 157 pounds.
There are three ranked wrestlers at that weight. Anderson does have a win over No. 8 Ben Durocher of Parkside.
Jackson County Central graduate Payton Handevidt will wrestle at 165 pounds.
He is 17-12 overall and is 9-8 in duals and 10-4 vs. regional competition. Three wrestlers are nationally rated in the weight class and Handevidt has faced each of them.
The top three placers at each weight advance to the NCAA Division II tournament in Indianapolis March 14-15.
