Jackson County Central graduate Emma Haren will be among 38 players participating in the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association All Star matches tonight (Wednesday) at Mounds View High School.
It’s the second straight year Haren was selected.
She will play on Team Weaver, named for one of the team’s coaches, Walt Weaver, a charter member of the MNVBCA Hall of Fame. Weaver, who also coached in pro and college volleyball, won two state titles as a coach at Apple Valley and one at Lakeville North.
Emma was a Class 2A all-state selection twice and also earned all-Big South Conference West Division honors twice and was an honorable mention selection once.
Haren will be attending Morningside University and playing volleyball for the Mustangs.
Team Weaver will play Team Dzubay in the second of two first-round matches at approximately 6:45 p.m. The first match at 6 p.m. has Team Mader vs. Team Nucech.
The winners play at about 7:30.
Among the other players on Haren’s team is Rachel Johnson, who will be a senior S/RS at Big South Conference newcomer Belle Plaine.
Also on the squad is a player that this year’s JCC team will be seeing, Mayer Lutheran MH Marley Martin. The Huskies will play Mayer Lutheran on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato.
Mayer Lutheran has finished second in the state Class 1A tournament each of the past two years after winning the title in 2021.
Two more Big South Conference players are on Team Dzubay. Marshall graduate Morgan Bjella will play at Minnesota State University and Redwood Valley’s Kendall Huhnerkoch is a senior who has committed to St. Cloud State.
