Lange wins in featured match

Martin County West graduate Katie Lange competed in what was billed as the featured match at the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic Saturday at Jersey Mike’s Arena at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J.

Lange, a senior at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich., faced Zaynah McBryde, a senior at Life University in Marietta, Georgia in a matchup of 138 pounders who are both defending national champions and ranked number one.

In their first-ever meeting, Lange got out to a 4-0 lead after the first period and then scored seven more points in the second period and won 11-3.

Lange was the 143-pound champion at the 2025 NCWWC tournament. She also was a national champion for Augsburg in 2023.

McBryde was the NAIA champion at 138 last season. She was second in 2024.

Neither allowed a point in winning their national title last spring. Lange outscored five opponents 44-0 and McBryde outscored her four opponents 38-0.
