Katie Lange won her first match and then lost her next two at the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials in State College, Penn.
Representing the Minnesota Storm, Lange was seeded third of nine wrestlers for the 62 kilogram Challenge Tournament. There was a total of 12 wrestlers at that weight as two were seeded into the semifinals and another into the best-of-three finals.
Lange was a winner by a 13-1 technical fall over sixth-seeded SaVannah Cosme of Sunkist Kids in her first match.
The Martin County West graduate then lost 6-4 to second-seeded Adaugo Nwachukwu of U.S. Army WCAP.
In a consolation bracket match, Lange dropped a 6-1 decision to Claire DiCugno of Lake Tapps, Wash.
Lange took an Olympic year away from Augsburg University after winning the 143-pound title at the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships in March of 2023. She trained at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Kayla Miracle, who trains at the Hawkeye Wrestling Club in Iowa City, defeated Macey Kilty in two straight matches to win the 62 kilogram class. Miracle was selected to compete in the 2020 Summer Olympics.
