Gavin Jacobsen threw a second straight postseason gem for the Jackson American Legion baseball team Friday and this time he would get the win as Jackson edged Pipestone 1-0 in an elimination game in the Southwest Sub-State tournament in Wabasso.
After striking out 16 in a sub-district game vs. Springfield last Saturday, Jacobsen came back to throw six and two-third innings before having to leave the game due to hitting the pitch count limit.
Jacobsen allowed only two hits, walked one and struck out 15. He struck out seven straight batters in one stretch from the first through third innings.
Trace Michelson would come on in relief and strike out the only batter he would face to preserve the win.
Jacobsen would also be a factor in the only run that would be scored in the game.
Lucas Vesey was hit by a pitch with one out in the bottom of the sixth. Jacobsen would advance him with a single and Keenan Ambrose would follow with a single of his own to bring Vesey around to score.
Ben Spaeth had the only other hit for Post 130, a fifth-inning single.
Jackson will play another elimination game at noon Saturday against the loser of a Friday night game between Springfield and Luverne.
