Brandon Williamson made his third rehab appearance, second for Triple-A Louisville and the first in the Bats’ home ballpark Tuesday night.
He did not allow a hit in three shutout innings for the Cincinnati Reds affiliate vs. the Iowa Cubs. The Martin County West graduate walked two and struck out one.
The left-hander threw 40 pitches, 22 for strikes.
He retired the Cubs in the first inning on two ground outs and a fly out to center.
Williamson got an inning-ending double play to erase a hit batter in the top of the second.
In the third, back-to-back one-out walks gave Iowa an opportunity to get on the board. Williamson got out of that situation on a line drive toward second that was caught by Bats second baseman Levi Jordan, who then doubled a runner off first.
Williamson pitched in 23 games for the Reds as a rookie in 2023, posting a 4.46 earned run average with 98 strikeouts in 117 innings pitched. He's getting close to returning to the big leagues after suffering a shoulder injury in spring training.
Cincinnati has a 24-32 record after a 5-3 loss to St. Louis Wednesday and is in last place in the National League Central, 8.0 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers. After a day off Thursday, the Reds open a three-game series at Wrigley Field vs. the Cubs Friday.
