Brandon Williamson will make his third appearance of the season and second start of the season (tonight) for the Cincinnati Reds against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Game time is 6:45 p.m.
Williamson’s most recent outing was Friday when he came on in relief in the second inning and went 4 2/3 innings. The Martin County West graduate threw 60 pitches (34 for strikes) and allowed one run on one hit, walking, hitting two and striking out one.
It was his first major league relief appearance and the second of his professional career.
In his season debut on Sept. 1, he went 3 2/3 innings vs. Milwaukee. Williamson was on a limit that night of 65 pitches (he would throw 66, 44 for strikes) and allowed two earned runs and four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out five.
Pitching Wednesday likely means Williamson will not pitch against the Twins this weekend at Target Field. Cincinnati closes out its series in St. Louis Thursday and then visits Minnesota for three games Friday-Sunday.
