Decked out in their new duds, the Jackson American Legion baseball team won a second straight game by a walk-off to close out its regular-season schedule, beating Wabasso 2-1 in a scheduled five inning game Thursday at Wacker Field.
The team had received new uniforms prior to the game thanks to a donation from Barb and Mark Spaeth. Look for more on that in a future newsletter.
Wabasso’s leadoff batter in the ballgame was hit by a pitch and that was followed by three straight singles to get the visitors on the board. Cam Scholten and Post 130 was able to get out of the inning without allowing another run.
Post 130 didn’t record a hit Thursday until Brett Rossow led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a double. Bryson Powers followed with a single to move Rossow to third.
Scholten’s groundout brought in Rossow with the tying run and moved Powers to second.
Powers then stole third and scored on a passed ball to give Jackson the win.
Scholten pitched two innings for Jackson, Grant Freking went one and Travis Rogotzke finished up and got the win.
Post 130 will play in the Sub-Sub-State B tournament July 7-9 in Springfield. Other teams competing are Wabasso and Springfield. Two teams will advance to the Southwest Sub-State tourney.
