Here's an expanded version of my Sunday Morning Twitter Barrage, featuring a little more information on how some our area graduates are doing on the collegiate level.
Jackson County Central graduate Jessica Christoffer, a sophomore at South Dakota State, placed fifth in the 800 meters (2:15.83) at the South Dakota Challenge in Vermilion.
Fairmont grad Andrew Moeller, freshman at SDSU, was 13th in the 800 meters (1:59.42) at the South Dakota Challenge. The next event on the SDSU schedule is the Sioux City Relays Friday.
JCC graduate Molly Boyum, a sophomore at Augustana, placed seventh in the 400 meter hurdles (1:09.45) and 23rd of 34 entries in the 200 meters (28.28) at the Red Raider Open Orange City.
JCC grad Jordan Hassing, a freshman at Augustana, was fifth in the long jump (20-9), 20th of 26 in the 100 meters (11.76) and 25th of 37 in the 200 meters (24.12) at the Red Raider Open. The Vikings are at the Kip Janvrin Invite in Indianola on April 23.
Fairmont graduate Connor Tordsen, a junior at Dakota State, placed in three events at Orange City. He was second in discus (159-9), second in hammer (163-2) and third in the shot put (45-3). The Trojans are at the Sioux City Relays Friday.
Fairmont graduate Ali Lardy, a junior at North Dakota, placed sixth in the shot put (45-10.75) at Vermilion. That's the seventh-best performance in school history. The Fighting Hawks are at the Dragon Twilight meet in Moorhead Thursday.
Fairmont grad Dylan Kennedy, a sophomore at Bethany Lutheran College, was sixth in the 400 meters (52.85) and was on the Vikings' 4x100 team that placed eighth with the fifth-best time in school history (45.85). The Vikings compete in a meet hosted by Saint John's Saturday.
Fairmont graduate Wyatt Quiring, a junior at Gustavus, won the 400 meters (50.1) and was on the Gusties' 4x100 team that placed second at the Lee Krough Invitational in St. Peter. Gustavus' schedule has athletes competing at either Wisconsin-LaCrosse or Carleton next weekend.
Fairmont grad Tyler Tennyson, a graduate student at Buena Vista, pitched well in 2-1 loss to Luther in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday. He pitches six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits, walking two and striking out six. He played first base in the second game and had two hits with an RBI single and a three-run double in a 10-7 loss. On Sunday, Tennyson had a hit and walked for the Beavers in a 9-6 loss to the Norse.
JCC graduate Easton Bahr, a senior at Buena Vista, had an RBI ground out in the first game for BVU Saturday and drew a walk in the second game. Sunday, he walked and scored a run.
Estherville Lincoln Central graduate Briar Rowley, who played amateur baseball for the Jackson Bulls last year, is a freshman with the Buena Vista baseball team. The Beavers (8-13) head to Waverly for doubleheaders vs. Wartburg next Saturday and Sunday.
JCC grad Ryan Christopher, a senior at Concordia (St. Paul) had two hits in both ends of a doubleheader Saturday at Minnesota-Crookston. In the opener he had an RBI, run scored and stolen base. Crookston won both games.
On Sunday, Christopher had two hits, walked and scored a run for the Golden Bears in a 9-4 win at Crookston in the first game of a twin bill. He had one hit in the second game, won 6-1 by UMC. Concordia (9-14) is slated to play two at Bemidji State Wednesday.
Derek Shoen of Truman, a sophomore at the University of Mary, hit a walk off home run to give the Marauders a 5-4 first game NSIC baseball win over Augustana Saturday at Bismarck Municipal Ballpark. It was his second hit of the game and his third homer of the season. He was hit by a pitch in the second game, an 11-9 loss.
On Sunday, Shoen of Truman reached base on a walk for U-Mary in a loss to Augustana in an NSIC baseball game played at Veterans Memorial Ballpark in Mandan. The Marauders (10-10) are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Wayne State Wednesday.
Fairmont graduate Jack Waletich, a redshirt junior at Minnesota State, had two hits in the second game of a doubleheader vs. Minot State at Corbett Field in Saturday. The Beavers won both games.
Waletich also had a hit Sunday in a 4-2 loss at Minot. The 15th-ranked Mavericks (18-4) are scheduled to play at Upper Iowa Saturday and Sunday.
Fairmont graduate Spencer Chirpich went the distance in taking the loss for Abilene Christian in a nonconference game at Southeastern Louisiana Sunday. He went eight innings, allowing seven runs (only one earned run) on seven hits, walking one and striking out three. The Wildcats (18-13) host UT Arlington Tuesday and then play a three-game series at No. 3 Texas Friday-Sunday.
Jackson County Central graduate Dominic Bargfrede is a freshman outfielder at Rochester Community and Technical College. The Yellowjackets have a 10-10-1 record. They're scheduled to play Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville next Tuesday (April 20).
JCC graduate Alex Bretzman is on the club baseball team at the University of South Dakota. The team plays in the Mid-America North Conference in the National Club Baseball Association. USD played series against Northern Iowa, Iowa State and Wayne State to start the season and is now idle until playing the Minnesota State club team April 24-25.
Fairmont grad Jack Hested, a freshman with the Iowa Lakes Community College baseball team, made his 10th pitching appearance of the season for the Lakers at home Monday vs. Southeastern, pitching one and one-third innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits.
Jackson County Central grad Jack Brinkman, a freshman at Dakota Wesleyan, shot a second-round 75 after an 86 in the first round at the Prairie Dunes Collegiate Invite at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. to tie for ninth place out of 45 golfers.
Brinkman then had rounds of 79 and 85 to place 31st of 46 golfers at the Hardrocker Invite at Arrowhead Country Club in Rapid City. The Tigers were third of nine teams. DWU is at the Briar Cliff Spring Invitational at Dakota Dunes Country Club next Monday and Tuesday.
Martin County West graduate Dawson Weber, a sophomore at Iowa Lakes CC, shot 83-78-161 to tie for 43rd place out of 71 golfers at the Iowa Central Spring Invite at Fort Dodge Country Club. The Lakers were eighth of 13 teams. Another MCW alum, Jarvis Weber, is coach of the Lakers.
ILCC is at the Briar Cliff Spring Invitational next Monday and Tuesday.
Three Fairmont grads are members of the Bethany Lutheran women's soccer team.
Sadie Sandersfeld is a senior who was a second-team Upper Midwest Athletic Conference selection last year and has been named to the all-UMAC academic team three times. Mikayla Stradtman is a junior with the Vikings and Lexi Kaufman is a freshman.
Bethany is 1-1, beating Martin Luther College 2-1 and losing 1-0 to Wisconsin-Superior. The Vikings are scheduled to play at Northland College next Saturday and their home opener is scheduled for April 19 vs. Minnesota-Morris.
JCC graduate Lacey Reitz had her eighth double-double of the season with 29 assists and 15 digs for No. 5 Northwestern in a 3-0 loss to No. 1 Jamestown in the championship match of the Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball tournament Saturday.
The Red Raiders (19-4) will host Trinity Christian, Ill. (18-8) in the opening round of the NAIA Championships next Saturday.
JCC grad Alaina Wolff is a freshman libero with the Wayne State volleyball team. The Division II Wildcats have played three exhibition matches against Division I opponents this spring, two vs. Iowa State and one vs. Kansas State. Wolff had four ace serves in the first match vs. the Cyclones.
Hobie Hedquist of Heron Lake made five saves on six shots in 27:14 of playing time for the Dubuque Fighting Saints in a 5-1 United States Hockey League loss to the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Dubuque (20-22-3) is at Green Bay Wednesday and then hosts the US National Under 17 team in a nonleague game Saturday.
