GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Brandon Williamson was assigned to minor league camp by the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday.
Media outlets that cover the Reds are speculating that the most likely scenario for the Martin County West graduate is to start the season at Double-A Chattanooga.
Cincinnati’s Triple-A affiliate is the Louisville Bats.
The left-handed Williamson made one appearance for the Reds this spring.
He pitched 1 2/3 innings in a game vs. the Cleveland Guardians, allowing one earned run on three hits, walking two and striking out two.
Williamson pitched collegiately at North Iowa Area Community College and Texas Christian University.
He was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 36th round of the 2018 MLB June Amateur Draft and later by the Seattle Mariners in the second round of the 2019 draft.
Williamson had a 3.39 earned run average in 19 starts combined with High-A Everett and Double-A Arkansas last year. Collectively, Williamson posted a 37.4% strikeout-rate.
The Mariners sent him to the Reds organization in a trade earlier this month.
