Brandon Williamson's latest start came in Major League Baseball’s second-oldest ballpark in a game that was nationally televised on Fox.
The Martin County West graduate took the mound at Wrigley Field, which is in its 99th season as the home ballpark for the Chicago Cubs.
He went 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on six hits, walking three and striking out three. Williamson threw 81 pitches, 52 for strikes.
The left-hander gave up a run in the first inning on a triple by Dansby Swanson followed by a ground-rule double by Ian Happ. He allowed three more runs in the second on four hits.
Williamson held Chicago scoreless over the next 2.1 innings, but Manager David Bell took him out of the game a walk to Seiya Suzuki, his fourth of the game in the bottom of the fifth.
He took his third no-decision as the Cubs led the Reds 4-1 when Williamson left, and Cincinnati rallied for an 8-5 win.
In his three appearances, Williamson has an earned run average of 5.02. In 14,1 innings he has allowed nine runs (eight earned) on 12 hits, walking nine and striking out 12.
After spending the weekend at MLB’s second-oldest ballpark, the Reds have a three-game series at the oldest ballpark as they head to Boston for three games vs. the Red Sox at Fenway Park Tuesday-Thursday.
Williamson’s next start is tentatively scheduled to take place next weekend at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati vs. the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Reds are third in the National League Central with a 24-29 record, four games behind the first-place Brewers.
