Jackson moved back into first place in a tightly bunched group atop the First Nite League amateur baseball standings Tuesday with an 11-7 win over Fairmont at Herb Wolf Field in Fairmont.
The Bulls scored their runs in bunches, putting five runs on the board in the third inning, three in the fourth and three in the sixth. The Martins scored single runs in the first, third and fourth innings, three in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Chris Gumto was the lone player with two hits for Jackson. Carter Snyder had a two-run double for the Bulls and Gage Johnson drove in one with a two-bagger.
Evan Olesen also doubled for Jackson. Also collecting hits were Blaise Jacobsen and Talan Holm. Easton Bahr walked once and was hit by a pitch twice.
Landon Vaske was the winning ptcher as he went the first six innings, allowing two earned runs on nine hits, walking seven and striking out six. Holm got the first out of the bottom of the seventh.
Olesen came on in relief and allowed an RBI single to Fairmont’s No. 3 hitter, but struck out the No. 4 and No. 5 batters to end the game.
Jackson leads the First Nite League with a 7-2 record, with Fairmont 8-3 and Windom 7-3.
A scheduled home game for the Bulls vs. Worthington Friday has been canceled. Jackson is scheduled to Fox Lake at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in Truman.
