Jackson Legion to open season; amateur update

The Jackson American Legion Post 130 baseball team will open its season on Tuesday with a 5:30 p.m. game vs. Welcome Post 553 at the Fox Lake Area Sports Complex in Welcome.

After that, the next scheduled game for the Legion team is Thursday, June 12 at Wabasso as part of a Junior Legion-Senior Legion doubleheader.

The Jackson Junior Legion is scheduled to play three games in the Luverne Buffalo Days tournament this week.

They will play the feature game of the first Friday vs. the host Luverne squad at 7:30 p.m. at Redbird Field.

Jackson will then play either Sioux Falls Sanford Black or New Ulm on Saturday.

Region 10C amateur baseball

Now that it’s June the league races for the amateur teams in Region 10C will start to take shape. The schedule was a little light this past weekend had to be postponed as teams were thin on players due to conflicts, like area graduations and weddings.

Windom is off to a 3-0 start in the First Nite League. Fairmont is 1-0 and will host 2-1 Jackson at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Herb Wolf Field.

Lakefield has one win. Fox Lake and Heron Lake have yet to win. Again, not a lot of games have been played yet.

In the Gopher League, Worthington has three wins while Hadley, Pipestone and the Milroy Irish. Luverne has one.

Region 10C will send two teams to the state tournament.

A reminder, Fairmont and Luverne are now in Class B.

The Martins and Redbirds are among five teams in District 8B. Three will advance to state.
