Items on both the boys and girls tournaments
Jackson County Central and Montevideo will be meeting in boys basketball for the eighth time Thursday. The Huskies lead the series 7-0.
For the seventh time in those eight games, the teams will be playing at SMSU.
The only time the teams did not play at the RA Facility was during the brief time Montevideo was shifted to the South Sub-Section of Section 3AA and the teams played a first-round game in Jackson.
It will be the second time they’ve played in the 3AA championship game. The other five games occurred during the Marshall holiday tournament.

From an original field of 123 teams, 28 remain in contention for a spot in the state Class 2A boys basketball tournament.
Two sections are down to only two teams. The other six sections all have four teams remaining with the semifinal and championship games to be played this week
Three section championship games will be played Thursday with the remaining five on Friday.

State girls basketball tournament
Marshall, 27-1, will make its 14th appearance in a state girls basketball tournament this week when it faces sixth-seeded Rock Ridge (24-5) at 5 p.m. Thursday at Maturi Pavilion.
The Tigers won state Class 3A titles in 2001 and 2002 and finished second four times (2006, 2014, 2015, 2021). Marshall is the lone Big South Conference team in the tournament.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s (23-6) is seeded first in the 3A tourney.
In Class 2A, Section 3AA champion Minnewaska Area (27-3) is seeded fifth and plays No. 4 Sauk Centre (27-2) at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Arena. Minnewaska was in the state tournament four times from 1995-1999, finishing as the runner-up in 1997 and 1999.
Providence Academy (29-0) is the number one 2A seed.
Goodhue (24-5) is the top seed in Class 1A and Maple Grove (26-2) leads Class 4A.
