Jackson County Central graduate Megan Bezdicek has been promoted to Associate Head Coach of the Minnesota State University volleyball team.
Minnesota State Director of Athletics Kevin Buisman made the announcement on Monday. The appointment will also include a new, two-year contract.
Bezdicek joined the Mavericks volleyball coaching staff as a volunteer assistant in 2021 and was hired as an assistant coach in 2022.
Prior to MSU, Bezdicek was an assistant coach at Spirit Lake High School for five years where she helped lead the Indians to an overall record of 108-37 and a district final appearance.
She was the head coach of the women’s volleyball program at Iowa Lakes Community College from 2013-2016, guiding the program to a 50-25 overall record.
In her time there, ILCC had eight all-conference players and seven all-region selections. Six players went on to compete at various levels of the NCAA and NAIA. The program was also honored with the American Volleyball Coaches Association team academic award two times.
Bezdicek played college volleyball at Augustana, where she was a team captain for her last two seasons.
At JCC, she was a three-sport athlete for the Huskies and earned multiple all-conference honors in volleyball, basketball, and softball.
She was also a two-time all-state selection in volleyball and one-time all-state choice in softball.
In her three seasons as an assistant coach with the Mavericks, they’ve won 38 matches, including 24 wins in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
Minnesota State was 18-9 last season and qualified for the NSIC tournament with 10-8 NSIC record.
"Megan has played a significant role in every aspect of our program's success in recent years," head coach Corey Phelps said. "From the relationships she builds with our student-athletes to the outstanding work recruiting athletes who fit the direction we are going as a program and everything in-between, the consistency she brings to our coaching staff is vital to our future successes as a team and program. I look forward to continuing the growth and development of our program with Coach Bezdicek for years to come."
Minnesota State opens its 2024 schedule Sept. 4-6 at the Missouri S&T tournament. The first home appearance for MSU is at the Maverick Invitational at Taylor Center Sept. 12-13.
The Mavericks open NSIC play the weekend of Sept. 19-20 with home matches vs. Mary and Minot State.
