TULSA – Jackson County Central graduate Keegan Moore will start competition in in his third Big 12 wrestling tournament Saturday at BOK Center. A redshirt senior at Oklahoma, Moore is seeded seventh at 184 pounds.
Moore, who has encountered elbow, back and foot injuries during his college career, made it into the Sooners’ lineup last month and has compiled a 4-2 record and earned an honorable mention spot in the latest national rankings.
One of his wins was a 9-4 victory over then-No. 8 Dakota Geer of Oklahoma State during the Bedlam dual on Feb. 20 for his only win
“This is his dream to get on that stand,” OU coach Lou Rosselli said of Moore. “That win showed that Keegan can compete with anybody if his mind is right and he’s ready to roll.”
Moore will wrestle Utah Valley’s Jacob Armstrong in the opening round Saturday. The winner then takes on second-seeded Marcus Coleman of Iowa State.
At last year’s Big 12 tourney, Moore went 0-2 at 197 pounds for Northern Iowa. He lost to current Oklahoma teammate Jake Woodley in the first round and to ISU’s Coleman in a consolation match.
Also, Moore placed third at 184 pounds wrestling for Oklahoma State in the 2018 conference tournament.
The Big 12 has been allocated four spots at 184 pounds for the NCAA tournament March 17-19 in Detroit.
During his high school career, Keegan was a three-time state champion at JCC.
