He got off to a rocky start, but Brandon Williamson settled in and pitched 5.2 innings for the Cincinnati Reds vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.
Through three innings, the Martin County West graduate had allowed six runs on eight hits. The left hander held the Dodgers scoreless and hitless over his last 2.2 frames.
He retired 10 of the final 11 batters he faced.
"That's very difficult to do," Cincinnati Manager David Bell said. "But it probably won the game for us."
The game was tied 6-6 when Williamson left. The Reds eventually won 8-6 in 10 innings on Will Benson’s walk off homer.
Three of the six hits Williamson allowed were home runs, one each to Mookie Betts, Will Smith and Miguel Vargas.
He walked two and struck out three in another no-decision. Williamson does not have a decision in four major league starts, but Cincinnati has a 4-1 record in those games.
The Reds won the first three games of the series before Los Angeles avoided the sweep by winning 6-0 on Thursday. Cincinnati is 29-34, five games behind Milwaukee in the National League Central.
Williamson’s next scheduled start is Tuesday in Kansas City vs. the Royals.
