Ryan Rasche was already in second place in one Jackson Bulls all-time category before Sunday's First Nite League game at Windom. Now he's second in two categories.
The Bulls were 10-4 winners over the Pirates at Island Park for Rasche's 70th career win with the Bulls. He's within two of Tom Hady's all-time mark of 72 wins.
Rasche struck out six Windom batters in his six innings, bringing his total in that department to 639, moving past Hady's 636 for second place.
The top spot in that category is a little further away. Tom Schuller holds the team record with 902.
Of more importance, the win means the Bulls finish May undefeated with a 6-0 record. The Pirates also came in unbeaten and are now 5-1.
In addition to the six strikeouts, Rasche allowed one hit and walked three.
The game got off to a rocky start for the left-hander, but he was able to recover.
"On the first batter I threw a fastball behind him on the first pitch of the game and I was a little worried at that point," he said. "But then I got settled in and it was a good lefty-left battle with (Kobe) Lovell and I got through the first six innings before we put the ball in play a few times and got a lead and took it home from there."
It was Rasche's third win in as many starts this season.
"I'm feeling good," he said. "I threw a couple of innings the first game, then an inning more the second time and then got it stretched out to six here. The plan is to kind of stretch the arm and be ready for playoff time. I've been able to have all my pitches working so far and that's been the most positive part."
While working to make sure everything is in order by the time the league playoffs start in July is the main focus, Rasche admits that the team win record has been something he has thought about.
"I won't say I didn't know about the record coming into the year, but I am way more focused on let's win ballgames and try to get into and win games at the state tournament," he said. "That (the record) just goes to show that I've been able to play a lot of years here and it's kind of starting to rack up.
"If I get to the point where I'm passing Tom Hady, that will be a special moment because he is the legend when it comes to pitching for the Bulls."
Rasche is in his 15th season of playing amateur baseball in Jackson.
Windom scored a run in the first inning, with the Bulls scoring a run in the fourth. Jackson would score three in the seventh, four in the eighth and one in the ninth. The Pirates scored two in the eighth and one in the ninth.
Andy Wolf was on base four times for the Bulls as he had two hits including a double and walked twice. Easton Bahr had a hit, walked and was hit by a pitch.
Briar Rowley had two hits and walked, Blaise Jacobsen had a hit and was hit by a pitch twice, Zach Neal collected two hits and a sacrifice, Rasche had a hit and was hit by a pitch, Shad Wacker had a two-run double and Chris Gumto had a base hit.
Jackson will host Luverne at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wacker Field.
