
Second-seeded Jackson swept seventh-seeded Pipestone in two straight games to earn a place among the final four teams in the Region 13C amateur baseball playoffs.
The Bulls scored a run in the eighth inning to win Game 1 by a 2-1 margin at Wacker Field Wednesday and took control of Game 2 with an eight-run third inning on their way to a 12-5 win Friday at A’s Field in Pipestone.
In the opener, Jackson scored a run in the first inning as Easton Bahr led off with a double and scored on a one-out single by Blake Evans. The A’s tied the game in the fifth.
The Bulls scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the home half of the eighth inning.
Bahr singled, stole second and then was advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Andy Wolf. Evans drove in Bahr with a sacrifice fly.
Pipestone got a runner on base in the ninth and the A’s got a hit after that, but Bulls’ left fielder Gage Johnson threw the runner out trying to advance to third. Evan Olesen then recorded his 10th strikeout to end the game.
Olesen went the distance, allowing only an unearned run. He allowed three hits, none until there were two outs in the eighth.
Bahr and Shad Wacker each had two hits for the Bulls.
At Pipestone, Wolf was on base six times as he had four hits and walked twice. Evans and Blaise Jacobsen each had three hits.
Posting two hits apiece were Carter Snyder, Olesen, Chris Gumto, Seth Busch and Wacker.
Trace Michelson was the winning pitcher, going five innings. Andrew Boyum pitched one inning and Landon Vaske went the final three.
Jackson will face third-seeded Fairmont in a best-of-three series that starts at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wacker Field. The Martins swept Hadley 2-0.
Top-seeded Luverne and fifth-seeded Windom meet in the other best-of-three series that starts Wednesday.
