It was a busy weekend for the Buena Vista University baseball team, which sandwiched a pair of American Rivers Conference doubleheaders around Senior Day and graduation.
On Friday, Jackson County Central graduate Easton Bahr was hit by a pitch and had an RBI groundout as the Beavers beat Central 6-2 in the second game of a doubleheader. He also had five assists at shortstop.
Fairmont graduate Tyler Tennyson threw a complete-game five-hit shutout in his final home pitching start as the Beavers won 1-0 in the opening game. He hit two batters and struck out six.
In Friday's second game, Tennyson was 3-for-4 and scored two runs as Buena Vista won 6-2.
On Sunday, Tennyson had two hits in each game and Bahr had a hit in the first game. Central won the second game.
The Beavers wrap up the regular season with doubleheaders at Nebraska Wesleyan Thursday and Friday.
JCC graduate Ryan Christopher has closed out his baseball career at Concordia (St. Paul). The Golden Bears went 1-2 in a series vs. University of Sioux Falls. Ryan had an RBI double in a 10-4 Concordia win in Friday's first game and had another double in the nightcap.
Fairmont graduate Jack Waletich, a junior at Minnesota State, had an RBI single and walked in a 5-1 win over Winona State in the second game of a doubleheader Friday and walked two times in a 4-1 win Saturday. Winona won Friday's opener 3-1. 15th-ranked MSU (32-7) hosts Sioux Falls in a best-of-3 NSIC tournament series Thursday and Friday.
Derek Shoen of Truman, a sophomore at the University of Mary, homered in each game as the Marauders swept Northern State Saturday in Bismarck. He also doubled and walked in the opener. Shoen leads Mary with 10 homers.
On Sunday, Shoen had three hits in a 6-3 win over Northern in Mandan. Mary is at St. Cloud State in a best-of-three NSIC tournament series Thursday and Friday.
Fairmont grad Spencer Chirpich was not involved in the decision in Abilene Christian's 7-5 win over Lamar Sunday. His line: 5.1 IP 4 R 4 ER 8 H 1 BB 4 SO. The Wildcats are at Sam Houston State next weekend.
JCC graduate Molly Boyum, a sophomore at Augustana, was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles at the Maverick Classic in Mankato with a time of 1:08.01.
JCC graduate Jordan Hassing, a freshman at Augustana, was 10th in the long jump in Mankato with an effort of 21-0.
JCC Jessica Christoffer, a junior at South Dakota State, placed seventh in the 800 meters at a meet in Vermillion Friday with a time of 2:14.23. She also ran the third leg of the Jackrabbits' 4x400-meter relay team that placed sixth.
Fairmont grad Andrew Moeller, a freshman at SDSU, had a time of 1:57.63 in the 800 meters Friday at USD.
Fairmont graduate Allison Lardy, a junior at North Dakota, placed fifth in the shot put (46-6.75) at the USD meet. She had three throws over 46-feet at the meet and was 1.5 inches shy of matching her PR. The Summit League meet is next weekend in Vermillion.
MCW graduate Cora Olson ran the anchor leg of the Concordia (Neb.) University 4x100-meter relay team that set a school record time of 47.70 to place fourth at USD. That meets the automatic national qualifying NAIA standard.
Fairmont graduate Connor Tordsen, a junior at Dakota State, broke the hammer school record for the third straight meet at Vermillion with a distance of 185-5. He was also 11th in discus (148-9) and 20th in shot put (43-7).
Fairmont graduates Lexi Kaufman, Mikayla Stradtman and Sadie Sandersfeld were starters for Bethany Lutheran women's soccer that closed out its season with a 2-1 win over Martin Luther in the consolation championship game of the UMAC tourney Saturday. Kaufman had three shots on goal.
Fairmont grad Dylan Kennedy, a sophomore at Bethany Lutheran College, placed sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 51.61 at the UMAC meet Saturday in Morris. He was also on the 4x800 team that was 4th, 4x400 team that also placed 4th and 7th-place 4x100 team.
JCC grad Haley Tvinnereim, who was a freshman member of the SDSU Cheerleading squad won the UCA College Nationals, is also a football cheerleader for the Jackrabbits, who beat Delaware 33-3 in the FCS semifinals Saturday and will play Sam Houston State next Sunday in Frisco, Tex.
