FAIRMONT – Fourth-seeded Luverne scored three runs after two were out in the sixth inning to rally past fifth-seeded Jackson County Central 4-2 in the opening round of the Section 3AA baseball tournament at Herb Wolf Field Saturday.
The Cardinals scored a run in the bottom of the second and there was no more scoring until the Huskies scored twice in the fifth.
Bryson Powers singled and advanced to second on a bunt by Cameron Scholten. Ben Spaeth singled to bring in Powers and Spaeth would later score on an error to give JCC a 2-1 lead.
Luverne scored its three runs in the sixth on four hits.
Lucas Vesey and Payton Handevidt also had hits for JCC.
Logan Butzon pitched five and two-thirds innings for the Huskies, with Brett Rossow getting the final out in the sixth inning.
Jackson County Central ends its season a 9-11 record.
The tournament resumes Tuesday with two winner’s bracket games at Legion Field in Marshall and two elimination games, one at the Irish Yard in rural Milroy and the other at Montevideo.
