Fairmont graduate Spencer Chirpich pitched eight and two-third strong innings in Abilene Christians' 5-3 baseball win Sam Houston Sunday.
The senior right-hander threw 119 pitches and came just one out away from his second complete game for the Wildcats. He allowed three runs on seven hits.
Chirpich was an honorable mention selection for Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week honors.
Buena Vista is the number four seed for the American Rivers Conference baseball tournament. The Beavers face fifth-seeded Dubuque in a first-round game at 11 a.m. Thursday in Cedar Rapids.
BVU is the defending champion, winning the 2019 event.
Fairmont graduate Tyler Tennyson, a senior, has helped lead the Buena Vista pitching staff, finishing conference play with a 5-2 record with a 2.21 earned-run average in 53 innings. He has thrown back-to-back complete-game shutouts and has allowed just five runs over his last 20 innings.
Tennyson has also been among the top hitters in the ARC with a .325 average that includes 11 doubles and 22 runs batted in.
Jackson County Central graduate Easton Bahr, a senior, has started 34 of 35 games at shortstop this season for the Beavers.
Derek Shoen of Truman, a sophomore first baseman-pitcher at the University of Mary, was a first-team choice on the all-NSIC baseball team. He hit .340 and hit a team-leading 11 home runs. He also pitched in eight games, starting seven, striking out 33 in 37 innings.
A transfer from Iowa Western, Shoen tied UMary's NCAA-era record for home runs in a season and missed the school record by one.
JCC graduate Jessica Christoffer, a junior at South Dakota State, competed in two events at The Summit League Championships in Vermillion. She was 9th in the 800 meters (2:21.28) and 11th in the 1500 meters (4:44.35).
Fairmont graduate Allison Lardy, a junior at North Dakota, placed fifth in the shot put at The Summit League meet with a mark of 46-6.75. She had three throws over 46 feet and was 1.5 inches shy of matching her PR.
JCC graduate Molly Boyum, a sophomore at Augustana, placed 14th in the 400-meter hurdles at the NSIC meet in Duluth.
Conner Tordsen, a junior at Dakota State, broke the North Star Athletic Association hammer throw record at the conference meet in Forest City by almost eight feet with an effort of 171-10. The old mark was 163-10. He was also second in discus (145-0) and seventh in the shot put (44-8.25).
Fairmont graduate Wyatt Quiring, a junior at Gustavus, was second in the 400-meter finals at the MIAC meet at Hamline (49.0). He'd had the fastest prelim time (49.1). The winning time in the finals was 47.98. Quiring was also ninth in the 200 meters (22.42).
