WITH A FORECAST CALLING FOR THE TEMPERATURE TO REACH THE 90s, TUESDAY’S MEET HAS BEEN CANCELED.
There will be plenty of changes for the Jackson County Central cross country teams when they host their only home meet of the season on Tuesday.
The day of the week is new. The Huskies have traditionally hosted their meet on a Thursday.
Jackson Golf Club will be the site of the Tri for Health-KKOJ Invitational. That represents a change. Other than the COVID-altered 2020 season, JCC has hosted its home meet at Loon Lake Golf Course since the mid-1990s.
And the time of day the Huskies will compete is different. After the first three meets this season were held in the morning, Tuesday’s will be held in the afternoon, with the first race at 4:30 p.m.
The number of teams competing in meet is down slightly as after years in the low double digits, seven teams will be on hand Tuesday.
That doesn’t mean the quality of the meet is down however. There are three ranked teams and six ranked runners scheduled to compete on the Mary Boyum and Kevin Anderson-designed Jackson Golf Club layout.
Luverne’s girls are ranked fifth as a team in Class A, with the Cardinal junior Jenna Debates fifth in the individual rankings.
There are two state-ranked teams in the boys meet with Worthington second in Class AA and Luverne third in Class A.
The Trojans have two rated girls runners with Mikele Walu seventh and Fanuel Wolday 12th.
Three Class A state-ranked boys are scheduled to compete as Josiah DeMaris of Madelia/Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther is rated seventh followed by a pair of Luverne runners, with Owen Janiszeski eighth and Camden Janiszeski ninth.
