Jackson Post 130 held off Madison, S.D. 3-2 to win the title at the Luverne Legion baseball tournament Sunday. The Tarantulas won their fifth game in four days.
Gabe Wolff led off the game with a home run for Jackson.
Ironically, in Post 130’s previous game, Wolff needed a homer to complete the cycle as he was 3-for-3 with a single, double and triple and was due to lead off the fifth inning but didn’t get an opportunity to bat as Jackson won the game early by the 10-run rule.
Bryson Powers doubled later in the first inning and scored on Cam Scholten’s single to make it 2-0.
Madison scored one in its half of the first and there was no more scoring until the sixth when Brett Rossow singled and scored later on Jace Jorgensen’s two-out, pinch-hit single that made it 3-1.
Madison scored a run against Tarantulas’ starting pitcher Travis Rogotzke to make it a 3-2 game in the bottom of the seventh. Grant Freking came on in relief and got Jackson out of the jam by retiring all three batters he faced including one strikeout. Madison left the tying run on third base.
Rogotzke got the win as he went six-plus innings, allowing two runs on two hits, walking seven and striking out five. Freking recorded a save.
Wolff had two hits including the leadoff homer; Powers had two hits including a double; and Scholten had a hit and walked twice. Ben Gallagher also had a hit for Post 130.
Jackson is at Wabasso for two five-inning games tonight (Monday) and then hosts Windom for a pair of six-inning games Thursday.
