Only three ranked Class 2A football teams played Tuesday in the first round of section play, and they all won big margins:
No. 1 Barnesville 60, Crookston 8 in Section 8AA
No. 4 Norwood Young America 58, Maple Lake 8 in Section 4AA
No. 6 Barnum 45, Hinckley-Finlayson 0 in Section 7AA
Semifinal games in all eight sections are scheduled for Saturday.
One Class 2A section championship game is on Thursday, Oct. 31, with the remaining seven on Friday, Nov. 1.

State tournament
There’s a new format for the state tournament this year. The state will be split in two, with sections 1-4 in the south and 5-8 in the north.
In the quarterfinals the parings will have the No. 1 seed playing the No. 4 seed and the No. 2 seed playing the No. 3 seed.
The teams will cross brackets for the semifinals with the lowest remaining seed from each half playing the highest remaining seed from the other side.
