
Two local graduates are competing in national wrestling tournaments this weekend.
Martin County West graduate Jaxson Rohman has earned NCAA Division II all-American honors for the third time in his career at Augustana University. He went 2-1 Friday on the first day of the National Championships at Corteva Coliseum in Indianapolis.
A senior, Rohman qualified for the national tourney in each of his four seasons with the Vikings. He has placed second twice.
All-American
Seeded third this year, Rohman started the tournament Friday by Bryce Beatty of Millersville in 1:43. He then dropped a 5-3 decision to sixth-seeded Zachary Ourada of Nebraska-Kearney) in the quarterfinals.
Rohman bounced back with a 6-3 win over Nathan Smith of UIndy in the second consolation round.
When wrestling resumes Saturday, Rohman, 20-5, will face Colton Drousias (31-14) of Glenville State in the third consolation round.
With a win, Rohman advances with an opportunity to place as high as third. If he loses, Rohman would go to the seventh-place match.

Jackson County Central graduate Thomas Freking is a a member of the Iowa State club wrestling team. He is 4-1 at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association Championships at Brookshire Grocery Arena in Bossier City, La.
Freking started the tournament with three wins.
He won by fall in :22 over Jelcey Marte of Liberty, a 17-2 tech fall over Ryan Auel of Penn State and a 6-5 decision over Camron Crump of Life.
In the quarterfinals, Freking dropped a 5-3 decision to Washington State’s Josiah Johnson to fall into the consolation bracket, where he won 12-5 over Kennedy Lowry of Sloan.
In the next round, Freking faces Andrew Brevot of RPI.
It was also announced that Freking has been named to the NCWA all-Academic team.
