Several area graduates were in action on college wrestling mats on Friday at locations around the Midwest.
Here’s a look at how they fared.
Anderson wins three
Jackson County Central graduate Kie Anderson, a freshman at Concordia College, won three matches to reach the 125-pound semifinals at the Pete Willson Invitational in Wheaton, Ill.
Anderson won a 10-2 major decision over Jack Reina of Augustana (Ill.) by fall in 4:02 over Mac Cafurello of Roanoke and was a 9-2 winner over Cody Merwin of Cortland State.
Now 8-4 on the season, Kie Anderson will wrestle Zac Blasioli of Millikin University in the semifinals Saturday morning.
The Cobbers are in third place out of 31 teams. North Central (Ill.) leads with 75 points, Wisconsin-Eau Claire is second with 71 and Concordia has 69 points.
Augustana wins dual
Two Martin County West grads and one each from JCC and Windom wrestled for Augustana in its 45-3 home win over Dakota Wesleyan Friday in Sioux Falls.
MCW grad Miles Fitzgerald, ranked 10th at 157 pounds in the latest ratings by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, was a 15-4 major decision winner. Another former Martin County Red Bull, Payton Anderson, lost a decision at 165.
JCC grad Jacob Tvinnereim won by forfeit at 174 and Windom graduate Kade Sammons won 7-5 at 141.
The Vikings will be in Marshall Sunday for a 2 p.m. NSIC dual vs. Southwest Minnesota State.
Augustana then returns to Elmen Center next Friday to host the University of Mary. Jackson County Central wrestles Brandon Valley at 6 p.m. that evening followed by the Vikings and Marauders.
Moore, Sooners in Iowa
JCC grad Keegan Moore lost his 184-pound match to fourth-ranked Marcus Coleman of Iowa State in the Sooners’ Big 12 dual Friday in Ames. The Cyclones won the dual 25-12
Oklahoma will face Northern Iowa at 2 p.m. Sunday in Cedar Falls.
