Colorado College freshman Carsen Musser was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Goaltender of the Week Monday.
A Sherburn native, Musser was in net for the Tigers’ 3-2 overtime win over No. 3 Western Michigan Saturday night at Ed Robson Arena in Colorado Springs.
Musser made his third start and picked up his second win for the Tigers. He was also the winning netminder in a win over No. 11 Arizona State the previous weekend.
A sixth-round selection (pick 166) by the Utah Hockey Club in the 2023 NHL Draft, Musser made 34 saves including 10 in the third period and four more in overtime. He was named Second Star of the Game.
Musser posted a .944 save percentage and 1.90 goals-against average in the win over the Broncos with only one even strength goal allowed. Eight of his 34 saves came short-handed as he helped CC go 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
For the season, Musser has played in seven games, starting three and has a 2-1 record. In 207:22 he has a goals against average of 2.89 and save percentage of .921.
Colorado College is 13-12-1 overall, 7-8-1 in the NCHC.
The Tigers, who made into the USCHO ratings at No. 20 this week, are at No. 16 North Dakota Friday Saturday. Heron Lake native Hobie Hedquist is a sophomore goalie for the Fighting Hawks.
