Boys top Saints: girls fall

Jackson County Central and St. James Area split a Big South Conference Black (Small School) Division basketball doubleheader Friday in Jackson.
The Huskies won the boys game 65-63 after the Saints won the girls game 78-62.
Weston Rowe led the JCC boys with 18 points, with Ben Gallagher also reaching double figures with 15. Carson Doescher and Carter Buhl each scored eight.
The Huskies are 2-0 to start the season both overall and in conference play.
Three players scored in double figures for the Huskies in the girls game, led by Zadi Farmer’s 24 points. Kinley VanDeVere netted 11 and Mady Wachal 10.
It was the third game in four days for the JCC girls, who had claimed their first win of the season the night before with a 70-48 win over Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman in Granada.
Three players scored in double figures in that game as well for the Huskies with Farmer scoring 23 points, Wachal 16 and Madelyn Rowe 12.
JCC is 1-4 overall, 0-2 in the conference.
Both Huskies teams are at Luverne on Tuesday.
Neither JCC team is at home again until after the first of the year.
The girls play their next eight games away from home before hosting Albert Lea on Jan. 5. The boys are away for their next 10 games before hosting New Ulm on Jan. 8.
