Hadley Wachal recorded 17 strikeouts as Class 2A eighth-ranked Jackson County Central won a key Big South Conference Small School Division softball game on Monday, beating Fairmont 4-1 Monday in Jackson.
Wachal allowed two hits and walked three as the Huskies moved to 5-0 on the season, 4-0 in conference games.
Braelyn Boogerd had two hits and walked once for JCC. Getting one hit apiece were Kinley VanDeVere, Mady Wachal, Hadley Wachal and Bailey Finck. Brielle Tufvesson drove in a run with a sacrifice bunt.
Gwyn Schultz accounted for the Cardinals only run with a home run.
Brylee Miller took the pitching loss for Fairmont. She allowed six hits, walked three and fanned eight.
The Cardinals bounced back from the loss at JCC to sweep Pipestone at home on Tuesday, beating the Arrows 8-4 and 5-4 and are now 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the conference.
Jackson County Central has a doubleheader scheduled at Luverne (4-1) at 4 p.m. Thursday.
The Huskies have scheduled their makeup game at No. 2 Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial for 11 a.m. Saturday.
The Knights are 7-0 after beating Minnesota Valley Lutheran 10-0 and 21-1 Tuesday. LCWM hosts Fairmont on Friday.
