NEW ULM – Two days after making history at Marshall, the Windom Area boys hockey team will look to write another chapter to the program’s record book on Saturday afternoon at New Ulm Civic Center.
On Thursday, fifth-seeded Windom Area was a 7-1 winner at fourth-seeded Marshall to advance to the section semifinals for the first time in the 22-year history of the program.
Saturday, the Eagles, now 12-13-1, will have an opportunity to make their inaugural appearance in a section championship game when they face another convocation of Eagles as Windom Area takes on top-seeded New Ulm (20-6).
Game time is at 4 p.m. New Ulm routed Fairmont 10-1 in its quarterfinal game Thursday.
New Ulm won both regular-season meetings, 6-1 at Windom on Jan. 24 and 4-3 at New Ulm on Feb. 4.
Saturday’s other semifinal has third-seeded Luverne (15-10) playing second-seeded Mankato East/Loyola (15-10-1) at 4 p.m. at All Seasons Arena in Mankato.
The championship game is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mayo Health System Events Center in Mankato.
